Legislative Practice
Our firm has maintained a legislative practice since its inception. During this time, our firm have been involved in the drafting and passage of much of Florida's landmark legislation.
As one of the largest lobbying organizations in Tallahassee, our firm has the resources necessary to respond to any request involving representation before the Florida Legislature. We have the resources to cover every working group, committee meeting, and floor session during which legislation tracked by our firm is discussed.
Legislation can adversely affect the bottom line of your business. Changes in environmental laws and regulations can increase the cost of obtaining permits and complying with environmental standards. Changes in tax law can increase your tax bill and administrative costs of compiling tax information and filing returns. Changes in business law can increase the cost of making transactions and expose your business to new liability.
Legislation can also benefit your business. Businesses can change the law to reduce taxes, simplify regulation, and reduce liability from frivolous lawsuits. Changes in the law can also create new business opportunities, such as privatization of formerly public industries, public investment in developing industries, and new public-private partnerships.
Legislators and staff will often be unaware of how legislation will affect a particular business or industry. Ideas and concepts for new legislation are constantly being developed by regulatory agency staff, trade organizations, legislative committee staff, and lobbyists. It is important to monitor this process and provide timely input to ensure that your interests are protected. Many businesses are not aware that they can influence the legislative process to encourage or prevent the adoption of a new law, or change an existing law, to benefit their bottom line.
Our firm's focus is to achieve positive, concrete results for our clients. This means ensuring that our clients understand the potential impact of proposed legislation, and ensuring that our firm understands our clients' business goals as well as any concerns about particular legislation, in order that we can take timely action regarding that legislation to achieve our clients' goals.
